Symposium Exploring Global Health in the Arctic
Centre for Arctic and Global Health is a network platform that provides support for networking activities and cross-border collaboration in global health, to health researchers, practitioners and educators based in Northern Norway.
"Exploring Global Health in the Arctic" is a part of the UiT – The Arctic University of Norway's anniversary program. During its 50 years, UiT has marked its position as one of Norways broad-based universities, and is an important actor in the local society. The University has built distinguished and solid strong academic environments, both on an international and national level. Our central location in the North, our broad and diverse research and study portfolio, and our interdisciplinary qualities make us uniquely suited to meet the challenges of the future. About the symposium:
"Exploring Global Health in the Arctic" aims to advance the value of solidarity upon which the University of Tromsø is based. We hope to spur national debate in the field by discussing global health initiatives springing out of Tromsø’s academic and professional community, and the aspect of solidarity in responses to global health challenges driven by conflict, migration and neoliberal practices across the world.
The programme further includes presentations and debates under the following headlines:
- Solidarity in health – “Folk-til-folk” (People-to-people) collaboration in practice in north and south
- Social movements: Successful mechanisms to stop austerity measures in healthcare services
- Migrants and indigenous people: minority health care and structural challenges
The symposium is free and open to all.
