Guest lecture by Anna Reading: A Right to Memory?

Professor Anna Reading (King's College London) is visiting UiT Tromsø for a special guest lecture on her latest research into memory studies, materialism, and globalisation.

Remembering is at the core of any human rights claim but do humans have a 'right' to be remembered or forgotten? How far should a right to memory extend? What about non-human persons according rights under the law? The lecture examines these questions through focussing on the ways in which international law has thus far framed questions of memory and memory rights, ending with some of the challenges arising with a universal  human right to memory.

Professor Anna Reading has played an international role in developing the interdisciplinary field of memory studies with research in gender, memory and human rights. She has particular foci on gendered memory, migration, the holocaust, digital technologies, nonviolent struggles and resistance with work that combines her expertise as an academic and playwright.

The guest lecture is made possible by and funded by the ENCODE research group.
