Religion, Violence, ISIS and Gandhi's Encounter with Islam

This lecture will explore the influence of Islam on Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence and how the Mahatma, whose 146th birth anniversary falls on 2 October, would have responded to ISIS violence and challenged the terror group’s interpretation of Islam. The terror group seeks to create a Caliphate, an ancient Muslim idea of state formation, similar to the Khilafat (Caliphate) Movement that Gandhi had supported with Indian Muslims between 1919 and 1924.
