The ice caps in the Arctic are melting. In the Arctic seabed off the Norwegian coast we find huge sinks of oil and gas, and processing plants are in place on shore. At the same time scientists tell us that processes linked to climate change are happening twice as fast in the Arctic compared to the rest of the world. And a recent report on mitigation efforts estimates Norway’s fair share of the responsibility to mitigate GHG emissions to be ten times the size of our population. Seen from Arctic Norway and the city of Tromsø, thinking and arguing about climate change from different perspectives is more important than ever! This conference is a rare opportunity to meet at the top of the world and do just that, together with international philisophical profiles within the ethical and political theory of climate change today.
