Excursion to Nordland and Norrbotten counties

On April 23rd 2014, a group of approximately 20 students and employees from UiT will embark on a weeklong trip to the counties of Nordland (Norway) and Norrbotten (Sweden) under the auspices of the project Focal Point North. During this trip, the group will visit a number of important institutions in the region, such as Árran Lulesami Centre in Tysfjord, the Sami Parliament in Kiruna, Ájtte Museum in Jokkmokk, the Silver Museum in Arjeplog, the County Governor of Nordland, the reindeer husbandry administration in Fauske, and finally the University of Nordland in Bodø. In addition, other institutions and organizations will introduce their work and special tasks to an international audience. The topic for this year’s excursion is “Indigenous peoples, extractive industries and policies”, and it will provide the participants with knowledge on the topic from a High North perspective.
