Research Interests/Activities in the Winter project:

In collaboration with the Winter project’s study of “Finnmarksløpet and the Iditarod of Alaska: Event Tourism,” we are undertaking a study of “Alaska and the Iditarod,” which will explore the significance of the Iditarod sled-dog race for Alaska from a multidisciplinary perspective. Our study will conclude with a conference to be held in conjunction with the 2015 Iditarod, and a book of the conference proceedings. Throughout our study, we will work with our Norwegian colleagues to develop information which will facilitate comparisons of Alaska and the Iditarod to meet the objectives of the Winter project’s comparative study.

Dr. Gunnar Knapp is serving as Principal Investigator for our study. I am serving as the study director, in charge of the initial study planning and coordination.
