Research Interests/Activities in the Winter project:

Arilds research interest is the guide role in nature based adventure tourism and strategic  pricing. At the time he is doing a study of how guides add value to clients when they are participating in back country skiing and mountain bike tours in the Rocky Mountains area in USA.  The main question asked is:  What are the important value adding factors that a guide may provide before, during and after a nature based adventure experience?  This is a qualitative study limited to guide performance in relatively small groups that are common in this kind of tourism. This means that the study are concentrating on guide services that are less standardized, to some degree risky and technical or physical demanding, and where guides must have high levels of skills and knowledge. In the winter project he will do a follow up study, doing a survey that compares what clients wants from guides in USA and Norway, how this is related to actual guide performance and finally analyse how clients evaluate value for money.
