PhD-school in Molecular and Structural Biology

Courses

The PhD-program for the PhD-school in Molecular and Structural Biology requires advanced courses corresponding to a minimum of 38 STP in addition to a thesis based on the research project.

18 STP are mandatory for the program, while the remaining STP’s may be chosen from the pool of advanced PhD-courses provided by the research groups of the PhD-school. Other courses at the University of Tromsø, or at other national or international institutions, may be approved for the PhD-degree in Molecular and Structural Biology.

Below is the list of PhD-courses offered by research groups of the PhD-school in Molecular and Structural Biology at the University of Tromsø. Some of the courses are offered as National Courses, and may be attended by students from other institutions.

In addition, the research groups are on an irregular basis organizing international courses which may be credited for the program. Such courses will be announced separately.

Mandatory courses:
KJE-8601 Research frontiers in molecular and structural biology (10 STP)
BIO-8301 Basic Course in Biomedical Science (8 STP)
or
MNF-8000 Forskning og forskningsformidling (6 STP)

Other courses provided by the PhD-school research groups:
BIO-8302 Molecular and Clinical Aspects of Cancer (I) (10 STP)
BIO-8303 Molecular and Clinical Aspects of Cancer (II) (10 STP)
BIO-8304 Molecular and Clinical Aspects of Cancer (III) (10 STP)
KJE-8402 Protein structures II (10 STP)
KJE-8403 X-ray crystallography I (10 STP)
KJE-8701 BIOSTRUCT Biophysical aspects of protein folding and stability (5 STP)

Other recommended courses provided by the University of Tromsø:
