Are you planning to participate in the online workshop on head arrangements of traditional music with Mattias Pérez on November 4th? We sure hope so, as it starts to look like a very interesting collaboration!

So what is a head arrangement? The term is mostly used in jazz, meaning a roughly outlined and unwritten musical arrangement that is played from memory, or that is made up while playing. In other words, we will be leaning how we can create new settings for our tunes while making music – rather than arrange them ahead of time with paper and pen.

You can participate in the online workshop either at an open physical meeting point, or in your own private setting. Everyone will connect to the home studio of Mattias Pérez through Teams. Two tunes will be sent out to all participants beforehand, and these will be our study material. If you are participating with others, you can together try out the theory that Mattias has provided in practice. If you are participating alone, you can instead discuss the content of the workshop and thoughts on how to apply it to the tunes together with others.

Nine open physical meeting points in Finland, Sweden and Norway form a network around the Aurora area. You are welcome to join one of them regardless of skill or instrument. Participants located far away from the open physical meeting points are invited to take their instrumental companions along and join from a comfortable location, such as a nice living room. Or if you would rather participate on your own, that is of course possible as well!
