Why have you chosen to study biology?

I have always liked to learn more about the animals in the ocean. My journey started by loving the whales, and after deciding to study Marin Biology a new world was opened. I come from a city, so the ocean was a distant place that I needed to get to know better.

Why did you choose to study at UiT?

After my journey, I discovered that studying human impact on the marine and aquatic ecosystem was also important. UiT offers a programme related to this goal, especially the sustainability group.

Which parts of the programme have been your favourite so far, and why?

I really enjoy that I was able to meet fellow biologists but with different fields of interest. The fact that we can choose classes allowed me to interact with different classmates and learn from their various experiences.

What do you think of the student life at UiT?

I love that there are always events to attend! If you want to meet people, there are good activities to join throughout the year. They are also very aware of guiding foreign students with the Arctic experience, the counselling center is very helpful and there are also Student organizations to join and get to know more Norwegians, for example I joined a Student Choir from the Students' Society.

Where do you see yourself working after your education?

I would like to keep doing some research with the Ecopath modelling, the main tool I am using for my Master, it is a very useful program to measure fishing impact so I can work anywhere where this kind of assessment are required. However, due to my background as a teacher, I might be able to teach other biologists how to use it. I am open to new opportunities wherever I can use my skills.
