Debattmøte om vestlige lands støtte til Ukraina / Debate meeting about support to Ukraine from Western countries

NORWEGIAN:

Internasjonalt Seminar er et informasjons- og debattforum i Tromsø, som gjennom foredrag og paneldiskusjoner tar opp nord/sør-problematikk, miljø/klima, fattigdom/utvikling og krig/fred som sentrale tema.

Torsdag 21. mars kl. 19.00-21.00 holdes det et nytt møte i Internasjonalt Seminar, på Tromsø bibliotek.

Krigen i Ukraina sies å være et varselsignal for global sikkerhet, inkludert Norges.

Lærdommer fra fortiden har vist hvordan likegyldighet eller minimal støtte i krisetider kan få vidtrekkende konsekvenser.

Noen land i Europa har begynt å stille spørsmål ved den militære støtten til Ukraina, og argumenterer til fordel for en diplomatisk løsning.

På denne ukens internasjonale seminar spør vi hvilke konsekvenser en lunken støtte til Ukraina kan innebære for norsk og global sikkerhet.

Spørsmål som vil bli diskutert under debattmøtet:

• Hvordan har russiske narrativer om Ukraina manifestert seg i virkeligheten, og hvilke er de nåværende narrativene som fremmes om NATO-land og videre?
• Hvorfor er konflikten i Ukraina ikke bare et regionalt anliggende, men også et globalt, som utgjør en trussel mot europeisk stabilitet og internasjonal sikkerhet?
• Hvordan har tidligere konflikter formet det nåværende geopolitiske landskapet, og kan historiske leksjoner hjelpe oss å forstå implikasjonene av Ukraina-krisen for Norge og dets allierte?

Internasjonalt seminar har et program med 25-30 åpne møter i året.

Seminaret støttes av Tromsø kommune og koordineres av FN-sambandet Nord og Seksjon for internasjonalt samarbeid (SIS) ved UiT Norges arktiske universitet.

I tillegg støttes seminaret av Tromsøs humanitære organisasjoner, solidaritets- organisasjoner og studentorganisasjoner.

ENGLISH:

The International Seminar is a forum for political debate in Tromsø, that addresses issues of the North/South divide, environment/climate, poverty/development, and war/peace as central themes through lectures and panel discussions.

On Thursday, March 21, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, a new meeting of the International Seminar will be held, at the Tromsø Library.

The war in Ukraine is said to be a warning signal for global security, including Norway's. Lessons from the past have shown how indifference or minimal support in times of crisis can have far-reaching consequences.

Some countries in Europe have started to question the military support to Ukraine, arguing in favor of a diplomatic solution.

In this week`s international seminar we ask what consequences a lukewarm support to Ukraine could entail for Norwegian and global security.

Questions that will be discussed during the debate meeting:

• How did Russian narratives about Ukraine manifest into reality, and what are the current narratives promoted about NATO countries and beyond?
• Why is the conflict in Ukraine not just a regional issue but of global concern, posing threats to European stability and international security?
• How have past conflicts shaped the current geopolitical landscape, and can historical lessons help us understand the implications of the Ukraine crisis for Norway and its allies?
