The selection has 4 Phases:

Phase 1

Student application and self-declaration - Online

Phase 2a

VTS online test battery - Online - 49 minutes

Phase 2b

Personality Profile - Online -  35 minutes

Phase 3

VTS Safety Assessment - In-house - 180 minutes

Phase 4

UiT Structured Interview -  In-house - 45- 60 minutes                                                                                                    Session is based on the Five Factor Model (FFM), using a competence-based interview approach.

                                                                                      ***

The Initial phase ( Phase 1 ) is conducted as per the Norwegian Universities standard procedure via local acceptance . The deadlines are twice a year, on 1st of September (Autumn Selection) and on 1st of March (Spring Selection).

Candidates who fulfilled the basic criteria, receive an online link by e-mail (in April for spring selection and in September - October for Autumn selection) ( Phase 2 ), with a psychological-diagnostic package for the selection of candidates. The online test takes about 50 minutes to complete and based on the test results, sixty successful candidates are invited for the selection at the Arctic University of Norway (UiT) in Tromsø.

We have a testing week (for Phase 3 and 4 ) at the UiT and you will be allocated a day during the selection week for your testing session.

The Phase 3 and Phase 4 are conducted in one day during a selection day at the UiT. During the selection day we will measure core abilities related to flying performance that have been shown to consistently predict pilot training performance. The testing battery takes around 160 minutes and it comprises of different types of tests. For example, we measure reactive stress tolerance and ability to react under complex stimulus conditions, logical reasoning and long-term focused attention etc.

In the last Phase 4, the evaluation is based on a structured interview, using questions to assess a candidate against specific competence areas. This usually takes 45 - 60 minutes in front of a panel of 2-3 interviewers. The interviews are conducted in Norwegian language, with occasional questions in English, if requested it can be conducted all in English.

The successful and the unsuccessful candidates will be notified within 10 days after the selection is completed.

The in-house testing is conducted at the Selection LAB at the UiT.

Tips on how to prepare for pilot selection

Prepare for the psychomotor tests

Psychomotor skills are a combination of innate abilities as well as skills developed due to repeated actions. We suggest you spend some time playing videogames that contribute to the improvement of fine motor control dexterity, eg games where you use a joystick.

Prepare for the interview

Be ready for questions about yourself and your previous experiences, eg work, study, flying experiences and aviation interests.

Make a good impression

Dress code -   SMART CASUAL

In general, smart casual means neat chinos or a pair of dark-coloured jeans with a shirt (polo shirt is also acceptable). Your outfit should be slightly less formal than a business casual or business professional style.

Jeans are absolutely acceptable as smart-casual attire as well as suit and tie.

Good luck
