Effects of nano- and microplastics on fish

Effects of nano- and microplastics on fish

In this project we will assess the effects of common environmental plastics of nano- and microscale (below 2 micrometer) on fish - using a systems biology approach (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics).

Environmental plastics can be teared into smaller fragments. These fragments can be of nanometer size. There are indications that nanoparticle exposure can be detrimental to fish - as they may cross the mucosal and blood brain barriers. These experiments are not, however, validated using other approaches. PI: Roy A. Dalmo. Master students: Ole K. H. Svartaas and Eskil M. Kjølstad
