Arctic organisms are strongly relying on their lipid reserves and the well function of their lipid homeostasis to survive in this highly seasonal environment. Some organic pollutants such as PAHs are capable of disrupting lipid homeostasis leading to potential long-term impacts such as reduced growth or reproductive output. Bile acids play a key role in the uptake of lipids and other nutrients from the food. The objectives of the present study are to develop methods to analyse quantitatively and qualitatively the major bile acids (BA) in polar cod, and to investigate whether BA are affected by PAHs exposure in polar cod.
