spring 2008 ENG-3993 Master's Thesis in English and Education - 40 ECTS
Theoretical subject.
First or second year at master´s level.
The master thesis is a short scientific dissertation on a limited topic in English linguistics or literature/culture, connected to a problem of didactics in the field. The thesis is normally to be written individually, but it may be part of a larger research project where several students and/or academic staff work together. If it is clearly stated who has written what, the thesis can, in special cases, be written as a group. The topic of the thesis may be decided by the student in agreement with a member of the academic staff. In some cases it may also be possible to write the master thesis on a given topic, and/or a topic connected to one of the ENG-3000 courses in linguistics literature/culture. The master thesis should normally be of between 40 and 60 typed pages. This course requires BA in linguistics or BA in the programme language and literature. Completed exams in ENG-3000 courses and PPU (Department of Learning and Teacher Education). A good command of English is also required.
The students are to show that they can conduct an independent research project, and/or a research project in cooperation with colleagues. In addition, they are to show the ability to use didactic concepts and analytic methods in a certain topic of linguistics or literature and/or culture.
