Jessica Schechinger
Stillingsbeskrivelse
Dr Jessica N.M. Schechinger is a postdoctoral fellow at the Norwegian Centre for the Law of the Sea (NCLOS) at UiT-The Arctic University of Norway, Faculty of Law. She is a member of the International Law Association (ILA) Committee on the Protection of People at Sea, the European Cooperation in Science & Technology (COST) Action CA23103 - Life, liberty and health: ensuring universal protection of human rights at sea (BlueRights), and was a co-convener of the European Society of International Law Interest Group on the Law of the Sea (2018-2024).
Her main expertise and research interests are general international law, international law of the sea and international human rights law. Currently, she works mostly on the protection and regulation of persons at sea and human rights at sea (also as part of her forthcoming monograph on the regulation of privately hired armed security personnel operating at sea); have righteousness; piracy; and maritime security (including environmental and maritime security issues in the Arctic/High North).
Jessica obtained her PhD in International Law from the University of Glasgow (which was sponsored by a full University of Glasgow College of Social Sciences scholarship), and holds an LLB and an LLM (Public International Law), both from Utrecht University, the Netherlands. She also graduated from the Rhodes Academy of Oceans Law and Policy.
She has previously worked as a lecturer in international law at the University of Glasgow School of Law. Prior to that, she worked at the University of Glasgow, the University of Amsterdam and Utrecht University/The Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS).

Hennes hovedkompetanse og forskningsinteresser er generell folkerett, internasjonal havrett og internasjonal menneskerettighetslov.
Hennes forskningsinteresser inkluderer: folkerett; generell folkerett; internasjonal havrett; maritim sikkerhet; sjørøveri; menneskerettigheter til sjøs; beskyttelse og regulering av personer til sjøs; privat innleid væpnet sikkerhetspersonell (‘privately contracted armed security personnel’, PCASP) som opererer til sjøs; privat væpnet sikkerhet til sjøs; internasjonal menneskerettighetslov; hav rettferdighet; internasjonalt ansvar; delt ansvar; hav allmenninger; internasjonal miljølovgivning; Arktis/Høye Nord (spesielt miljø- og maritime sikkerhetsspørsmål); og Forente Nasjoner lov.
Undervisning
Jessica har koordinert og undervist i en rekke folkerettskurs på LLB- og LLM/MSc-nivå. Hun har også gitt opplæring og undervist elever som en del av et utvidet deltakelsesprogram.
