Conversation about the U.S. elections, and how it will impact the world

Erik Bergersen from TV2 will lead a conversation with UiTs Gunnhild Gjørv Hoogesen, and specially invited U.S. experts Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Markey and Jim Gerlach about the regional and global security implications of U.S. decision-making both prior and after the U.S. election.

GUNHILD HOOGENSEN GJØRV is a Fulbright Alumni and Professor in Security and Geopolitics (Critical Peace and Conflict Studies) and Arctic 5 Chair in Security Studies at UiT, The Arctic University of Norway. She has been arctic 5 Chair in Security Studies, a leader of "The Grey Zone" research group and member of Academica Borealis. Her research focus is on security studies broadly understood (international, state, societal, and individual or human security), and geopolitics and security in the Arctic.

EIRIK BERGESEN is a political commentator, presenter, and former diplomat. He is co-host of "Norske Tilstander", and previously co-hosted the shows "Trumps verden", and "Exit Trump", all on TV2. Bergersen has been an expert commentator on TV2 during the recent Norwegian and U.S. elections. Eirik Bergersen also the co-host of the podcast "Det store bildet", with Sofie Høgestøl.

ELIZABETH ‘BETSY’ MARKEY is a former member of U.S. Congress from Colorado (Democrat). After her congressional term, Markey held key positions in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Currently an advisor with Sumihiro Investments, Markey brings her extensive experience in assisting foreign-owned companies to establish a presence in the United States. Being a pioneer in the field of email marketing and web design with Syscom Services, and her significant contribution in developing computer security policies at the U.S. Department of State, she provides a wealth of knowledge in technology and cybersecurity.

JIM GERLACH is a former member of U.S. Congress from Pennsylvania (Republican). During his tenure, Gerlach led the House Ukraine caucus, was a member of the German American caucus, and advocating for government-funded embryonic stem-cell research and environmental protection. Post-congress, Gerlach's experience spans from working at Venable LLF law firm to leading the Business-Industry Political Action Committee (BIPAC), and the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting businesses. His diverse roles and commitment to campaign finance reform highlight his multifaceted approach to political and business landscapes.
