SOK-8005 Advanced Natural Resource Economics - 10 ECTS
Admission requirements
PhD students or holders of a Norwegian master´s degree of five years or 3+ 2 years (or equivalent) may be admitted. PhD students must upload a document from their university stating that there are registered PhD students. This group of applicants does not have to prove English proficiency and are exempt from semester fee.
Holders of a Master´s degree must upload a Master´s Diploma with Diploma Supplement / English translation of the diploma. Applicants from listed countries must document proficiency in English. Course content
By the end of this course students will be expected to know and understand: Dynamic optimisation;- Dynamic natural resource economics applied to some natural resources, as well as other tools of analysis By the end of this course students will be expected to have gained the following skills:
- the understanding of the dynamics of natural resource utilisation and management
- the ability to engage in contemporary debates on management and governance of renewable and non - renewable resources.
- the ability to see their own research in a wider perspective, and to critically reflect upon the basic assumptions and challenges of their research projects
Objectives of the course
The course gives an in depth study of the theory of optimal explotation of the renewable and non - renewable resources. The course starts with an introduction to the mathematical tools of dynamic optimisation of natural resource use, based on a natural resource economic theory foundation. Applied examples and managements methods are discussed.Assessment
4 hour written exam in mathematics (counts 40%). Term paper (counts 60%). Evaluated with grades A - F, where F is failed.
Work requirement:
- Required pass on 200 word introduction to term paper
- Required pass on presentation of term paper topic
Re-sit exam: A re-sit exam and/or term paper is offered in the beginning of the next semester.
