Recommended prerequisites

ITE1852 Mechanics and Fluid Mechanics

Objectives of the course

Students will gain the knowledge (LU-M-K-1), such as:

i. They will understand and can calculate the effect of joint forces and sectional forces on composite statically determinate structures.

ii. They can distinguish between statically determinate and statically indeterminate structures

iii. They can suggest calculation for selected statically indeterminate structure

iv. They can understand the usage of Generalized Hooke's law

v. They can find maximum stresses and strain in a simple structure

vi. They can use energy theory to find the behavior of structure under a loading.

vii. They can calculate natural frequency in simple continuous systems.

Students will gain the knowledge (LU-M-K-2), such as:

i. They will learn to how to use the formulas of statics and strength of materials. Students will gain the knowledge (LU-M-K-5), such as:

ii. They will be able to look up and apply formulas and tables beyond those directly included in the instruction.

Students will learn the skills (LU-M-F-1..5), such as:

i. Students can learn to apply their knowledge gained in this subject to solve more complicated problems, in systematic way, later in the program.

Students will have the general competence (LU-M-G-1..2), such as:

i. Students will understand the basis for assessing how structures load, strength and design have an impact on resource use and safety.

Language of instruction and examination

English

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises with supervision. You will receive written feedback or comments on the exercises.

Assessment

There will be 4 compulsory homework assignments - They will be graded for 25% Their will be 1 classwork assignment - It will be graded for 10% To enter in the FINAL EXAM the student should have at least, 15% out of 35% (25%+10%)

It will be 5 hours written individual examination under supervision & will carry 65% of the total grade
