NOR-0032F Norwegian for Foreign Students, Step I - 20 ECTS
Type of course
A Higher Education Entrance Qualification from the home country, and a certificate of sufficient English skills, to qualify the student for entrance in Norwegian higher education.
The course is compulsory. Students who have participated and passed are allowed to continue onward to Step II.
Objectives of the course
The candidate is expected to:
Knowledge and understanding:
- Be able to comprehend clear speech in Norwegian about topics related to daily life.
Skills:
- Be able to conduct a conversation using a concrete vocabulary and ask for information
- Be able to read the syllabus texts and similar texts on topics from daily life
- Be able to write in elementary Norwegian about topics related to daily life
Competence:
Acquire an active vocabulary of appr. 1000 words and knowledge of basic grammatical and phonetic rules
Assessment
The following compulsory assignments need to be handed in and passed in order for the student to qualify for the exam:
- 7 written assignments, assessed and approved by the teacher.
- All teaching is compulsory, and an 80% attendance rate is required in order for students to qualify for the exam.
Step I is finalized by an exam consisting of a 4-hour written exam and an oral exam. Together, the two exams make up an average pass or fail grade. Student who need to retake the exam will only have to redo the exam they failed.
In case a student fails an exam, or can document a valid reason for absence, a re-sit examination is offered at the beginning of the next semester.
