Admission requirements

Applicants must be admitted to the research school Infection, Inflammation and Immunology. Admission to the research school includes admission to the course.

Course content

The course covers different aspects of antimicrobial drugs, pharmacoepidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, microbial adaption and evolution, resistance determinants, spread of resistance, microbial determinants for colonisation and infection, biofilm, host determinants for bacterial colonisation, host response, all aspects of innate and adaptive immune response to alloantigens, microbial antigens and autoantigens, and infection epidemiology including methods to study such aspects.

Objectives of the course

From this course students are expected to achieve:
  • Knowledge about local, national and international research activities within infection, inflammation and immunity.
  • Knowledge about methods used within the research areas infection, inflammation and immunity.
  • Proficiency in oral scientific presentation and peer evaluation

Assessment

Work requirements

  • Research seminars are obligatory during five semesters. Students must attend a minimum of 70 % of the presentations to pass the course. Extended absence due to research stay(s) outside Tromsø must be approved by the course committee in advance.

Assessment

The assessment will be based on a portfolio examination:

  • The student must give three oral presentations of their research project or a selected subject
  • One oral presentation must be approved after evaluation as passed/not passed by an appointed committee including one supervisor and one PhD student.
  • One evaluation of a fellow PhD student presentation.

All parts have to be passed to get the portfolio approved.

Re-sit exam:

There will not be arranged a re-sit exam for this course.
