Wanny og Henry: fangstliv i Arktis

Polarmuseets permanente utstillinger har stått relativt urørt i lang tid. Nå har vi gleden av å ønske velkommen til en ny utstilling om norsk overvintringsfangst på Svalbard og Grønland. WANNY OG HENRY: FANGSTLIV I ARKTIS tar utgangspunkt i historiene til to kjente skikkelser fra virksomheten, Wanny Woldstad og Henry Rudi. Vi følger dem på isbjørnjakt, gjennom hundehold, matlaging og juleforberedelser, fra fangstfeltet og ut i offentligheten – og over grensene for tradisjonelt manns- og kvinnearbeid.

Vi markerer åpningen med ord for dagen, lett servering og musikalsk innslag ved Lisa Marie Skoglund. Velkommen!

Bak utstillingsprosjektet om kjønn på fangst står de polare kulturvitenskapelige forskerne Lena Aarekol, Marit Anne Hauan og Anka Ryall, alle ved UiT Norges arktiske universitet. Prosjektleder/kurator er Silje Gaupseth og Reibo AS står for utstillingsdesignet.

The permanent exhibitions of the Polar Museum have remained relatively unaltered for a long time. We are happy to welcome you to a brand new exhibition about Norwegian hunting and trapping in Svalbard and Greenland. WANNY AND HENRY: HUNTING AND TRAPPING IN THE ARCTIC shows the story of this historical enterprise through Wanny Woldstad and Henry Rudi. We follow them as polar-bear hunters, dog-keepers and home-makers, from their hunting grounds into the public domain – and beyond the limits of traditional gendered work.

There will be a short opening program and light refreshments. Welcome!

The exhibition project on gender in the Arctic is based on the work of the polar cultural researchers Lena Aarekol, Marit Anne Hauan and Anka Ryall, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Project manager/curator is Silje Gaupseth and exhibition design is by Reibo AS.

The exhibition has been financed by the Polar Museum and Troms County Municipality.
