Exciting workshop on Sustainable Development Goals

Do you want to expand your research network and to learn more about UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

Center for Arctic and Global Health (SAG) and Norwegian Research School of Global Health have the pleasure to invite PhD students from UiT to participate in an exciting workshop about global issues in light of UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 17 SDGs will be used as a framework for discussing global issues from different perspectives. Working with the SDGs this way requires interdisciplinary cooperation and provide an opportunity for the university to work in new and innovative ways. The purposes of the workshop are:

a)     Link ties among PhD students from different parts of UiT who work on global issues

b)    Discuss how UiT can work with SDGs

c)     How to relate own research to the SDGs in terms of funding opportunities

The workshop is scheduled for Friday 8 June between 9 and 13 o'clock in Árdna on campus Tromsø and is headed by Jakob Grandin from the University of Bergen (UiB). Jakob Grandin is himself a PhD student and is involved in UiB's work on the SDGs. He also has good experience of setting up interdisciplinary teams working to solve social challenges.

Program:

  • Breakfast and introduction: Why talk about the SDGs in academia?
  • Group discussions:
    • The SDGs in own research: opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration
    • Opportunities and challenges: What are the key opportunities and challenges in working with the sustainability at UiT at the present?
    • The vision: What would a completely sustainability oriented UiT look like?
    • Pathways to a sustainable university
  • Plenary session: How may we use the outcomes in a feature story or blog post?
  • Joint lunch

The workshop is an excellent opportunity for PhD students to get acquainted with colleagues outside their own field of study. As a relatively small university, UiT has a lot to gain from collecting resources and networking across institutional and professional divisions, including PhD students. So, just sign up!

We serve breakfast (coffee, fruit, wraps and waffles) from 9 o’clock. The workshop ends with a joint tapas lunch. No preparation required – come as you are!
