The Working Group of Indigenous Peoples in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region (WGIP) hereby invites you to attend the 3rd Barents Indigenous Peoples’ Congress 2015.

Indigenous politicians and parliamentarians from Russia, Norway, Sweden and Finland will gather to discuss and share views and experiences regarding the role and influence of indigenous peoples in the Barents Euro-Arctic Council. The aim of the Congress is to follow up the resolution from 2012 on indigenous peoples' representation in the Barents Euro-Arctic Council and the Barents Regional Council, follow up on the Action Plan 2013-2016 and facilitate dialogue about current issues in the Barents Region.

The Congress will take place at UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, Campus Tromsø, on February 4th 2015, and the program will be coordinated with the annual Sámi week in Tromsø. The conference “Barents Indigenous 2050 - impacts of our footprints” will take place the following day and focus on the future for indigenous languages and the co-existence between extractive industries and indigenous peoples in the Barents Region. The conference is organized in close cooperation with the Centre for Sami studies at the Arctic University of Norway.
