Solid Earth Sciences, Mineral Resources and Geohazards
The Solid Earth Sciences, Mineral Resources and Geohazards research group focuses on studies of geological processes associated with the evolution and deformation of bedrock. Most of our research areas are located in northern Norway, but we also have active projects worldwide (e.g. S-America, Africa, SE-Europe). By integrating structural and geochemical studies with mineralogical, petrological and geochronological data, we search for new knowledge about the formation, deformation, stability and general geological development of crustal rocks and associated mineral resources.

The department’s experimental and fluid inclusion laboratories are of fundamental importance for the activities of the research group. Here we can simulate natural processes under controlled conditions, which improve the understanding of the processes taking place in the Earth’s crust.
