RUS-3042 Practical Russian 2 - 5 ECTS
Type of course
This course is intended for students in the Master`s Degree Programme in Literature, the Master`s Degree Programme in Language, the Master's Degree Programme in Russian studies and the Master`s Degree Programme in Language and Social Studies with integrated practical-educational training. This course may be taken as a single course by students who meet the admission requirements for the Master`s Degree Programme in Russian language. A bachelor's degree (180 ECTS), or equivalent qualification, in Russian or Russian Studies (with specialization in Russian) with a minimum of 80 ECTS in the Russian coursework. An average grade equivalent to C or better in the bachelor's degree is required. For more information, please contact the Student Advisor.

Course content
The course curriculum is a combination of rather advanced reading, speaking, listening, and writing activities, with a focus on practical grammar (approx. level C according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)). It includes elements of translation, essay writing and a roundtable debate.
Foreign students who do not speak Norwegian can use English in translation tasks.

After completing the course you have acquired the following knowledge and abilities:

- knowledge about complex grammatical constructions in Russian
- knowledge about the stylistic techniques that characterize various genres
- acquired a better practical Russian proficiency (orally and in writing), and deeper knowledge of Russian grammar
Ability
You can
- translate advanced texts into Russian and discuss current events in Russian
- carry out oral presentations in Russian
Teaching methods
Teaching will be in the form of weekly written assignments and conversation and reading exercises. The students will submit an assignment weekly for correction and feedback. Teaching consists of approximately 2 hours per week for 13 weeks.
All courses undergo an evaluation once in a 2-year period at the master's level. The Programme Board determines which programme options will be evaluated per year, and which courses will be evaluated by the students and the teacher per year.

8 written assignments must have been submitted by the given weekly deadline and must have received a pass.
An oral presentation of approx. 10 to15 minutes must have been completed with a pass during the semester.
All students participate in a roundtable debate at the end of the semester.
