Finished with your master's (soon)? A bit about submissions in Munin

UiT has an established policy that master´s thesis should be openly available in the institutional repository Munin, as described in the Examination Regulations, Chapter 5 § 33. However, submission via Wiseflow does not automatically make the thesis openly available. Upon submission, you can choose delayed availability or opt out entirely, ensuring that your thesis will never be made available in Munin. This choice can easily be changed by contacting us at the University Library. You can also withdraw your thesis from open access at any time afterward. All submitted master´s thesis, included those graded as failed, are preserved in a closed archive for posterity. This is an institutional obligation.

Delayed publishing

You can choose to delay the availability of your master´s thesis for up to five years. This might be relevant if you plan to adapt your thesis into an article. In most cases, this will not be an issue, as the vast majority of journals accept that master´s thesis are openly available. However, there are exceptions, particularly in medical fields. If you are unsure, consult your supervisor or contact the library, and we will help you assess the situation.

Opting out of publishing

You can also choose to never make your thesis available in Munin. Note that a master´s thesis is generally considered a public document, even if it is not made available in Muniin. If your thesis must not be available under any circumstances, you must apply for an exemption from public access.

Thesis exempt from public access

Theses that for reasons such as privacy concerns or other considerations must not be accessible in any way, should be exempted from public access (Examination Regulation, Chapter 5 § 33(3). If your thesis contains such information, you must, in collaboration with your supervisor, apply for this exemption through your department or faculty.
