What we offer

  • 30-minute consultation
  • Guidance on semester assignments, bachelor's and master's theses
  • Help with all stages of the writing process: research question, outline, and editing

The writing tutors are master's and bachelor's students at UiT with experience in academic writing. They can provide guidance on texts within all disciplines, and in both Norwegian and English. The writing guidance is general and not subject-specific, focusing on basic principles of academic writing. Get to know the writing tutors better further down the page.

What can the writing center help you with?

  • Assignment structure
  • Development of paragraph and sentence structure
  • Logical flow in the text
  • Development of a precise academic language
  • Simple citation questions

You can book guidance physically at Campus Tromsø or digitally. The service is free. You book by using the booking form below. It is only possible to have two active bookings.

It is wise to book guidance as early as possible! You do not need to have a completed text to book guidance. Often, the earlier you come for guidance, the better we can help you.

UiT Writing Center is a free service for all students at all study locations at UiT.

What does the writing center not help with?

If you need help with advanced citation, EndNote, and literature searches, please contact the library. The writing center does not proofread. We also do not offer language assistance, and cannot help with formatting assignments or answer technical questions about Word or other software.

For lecturers

The writing center is a service for all UiT students. The center does not replace academic content or the role of the lecturer or advisor, but focuses on purely writing techniques. We greatly appreciate you informing your students about the service!

In spring 2025, we are working on a digital learning resource in academic writing. Therefore, the writing center's project manager will be less available for teaching individual subjects. If you want teaching for a larger student group, please contact us here.

How to book an appointment

You can drop by during opening hours. However, to ensure you receive guidance, you should book an appointment.

Choose the "Guidance" option. Here, you can select between physical and digital guidance, either in Norwegian or English. In the comment field, we ask you to tell us about

  • Your field of study and year
  • What you need help with
  • Assignment text

When you book an appointment, the confirmation will be sent to your student email. Remember to check it! You can manage your booking in TP.

Book an appointment and send us your text well before your submission deadline to skrivesenter@uit.no. Set aside plenty of time to work on your assignment after you have received feedback from us.

The Writing Center focuses on oral guidance over Teams/Zoom or face-to-face. Dialogic writing guidance focuses on an open and constructive dialogue with you as a student. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know your ideas and text work. Welcome!
