Genitalitopia
Temporary exhibitionA photo exhibition on the unique intimate anatomy of fungus gnats.
OPENS JUNE 14, 2026.
The fungus gnat has existed for at least 150 million years and doesn’t bite, but what impresses us (and the female gnat) the most are the large and varied genitalia of the male gnat. We’re talking shapes and sizes that are worth showcasing!
Researcher Jostein Kjærandsen has studied these fascinating creatures up close—very, very close—in various parts of the world over several decades. In the exhibition Genitalitopia, we display some of the spectacular microscope images Jostein has taken of the fungus gnat and its more intimate parts—some enlarged to a full 2 meters.
Please note! Parts of the exhibition are located in the Museum Hall, the museum’s auditorium. The auditorium is occasionally used for closed events. Feel free to contact the museum to check whether the Museum Hall is open.
