Guest lecture in Cambridge, by Steinar Thorvaldsen
Steinar Thorvaldsen was invited to give a guest lecture in Cambridge on May 7th this year. The lecture was titled DNA as Information: A Framework for Quantifying Genetic Information. Steinar has published several articles on this topic together with Nordic colleagues. The genetic material in the cells’ DNA and genes can be compared to the text and chapters of a book, and this new research presents a method for measuring the information found in genes.

He has previously given similar lectures at the Academy of Science in Tromsø. The lecture in Cambridge was organized by the William Whewell Centre for Science & Natural Theology, which is currently being established in Cambridge, and was held at Trinity Hall on the university’s campus. It was in Cambridge that the structure and function of DNA were first discovered. In the photo, Steinar is standing outside the pub where this discovery was celebrated.
