The seminar is financed by Nasjonalt forskerutdanningsutvalg for
historisk-filosofiske fag and supported by NorFA (participant stipends).

The purpose of this research training seminar is to give PhD students
and other researchers insight into the methods and tools for the
study of grammatical variation that have been developed in recent
years. There will be a particular focus on the study of syntactic
variation, both from a sociolinguistic and a broader dialectological
perspective, and the teachers have all been recruited from ongoing
dialect syntax projects. Each teacher will give two lectures of
approximately two hours.

Abstracts:

Leonie Cornips: Standardization of syntactic elicitation tasks, speakers of dialects and why acceptability judgments do not provide direct access to speakers' linguistic competence

Cecilia Poletto: Field work in formal syntax: what dialectology can provide to our understanding of internal and external grammar

Jan-Ola Östman: Constructions and pragmatics in dialectology research
