The university of tromsø was established
by parliamentary decision in 1968 and
admitted its first students in 1972. Over
these 40 years, the university has devel-
oped into a full-scale classical university
which covers all major fields of study.

Uit offers a wide range of programs at all
levels. Out of our 250 programs, around
40 are taught in english.
Most of UiT’s English taught master’s
degree programmes reflect the specific
character of the University’s location in
the High North. An increasing number
of our traditional Norwegian study pro-
grammes offer courses of international
interest in English. You will find at-
tractive subjects at both Bachelor and
Master levels in all of UiT’s six faculties.
