The Singapore Sustainable Futures Initiative (SSFI) and the SMU Centre for Commercial Law in Asia (CCLA), Yong Pung How School of Law, are pleased to invite applications for the position of Yong Pung How Research Fellow (1-year contract) at Singapore Management University.
This is a full-time position based in Singapore, with an expected start in the first half of 2026. The Research Fellow will be required to be in residence at SMU for the duration of the appointment. The role is designed for exceptional early-career scholars who wish to develop a strong research profile with a view to securing a faculty position at a reputable law school.
Job Description: The Fellow’s portfolio will comprise 60% research and 40% administrative responsibilities, working closely with SSFI team under the Directorship of Associate Professor Nengye Liu. Research duties include pursuing a well-defined research agenda, publishing in reputable refereed journals, and delivering at least one research seminar at SMU annually. Administrative responsibilities include supporting the work of CCLA through the organisation of seminars, conferences, and events, as well as contributing to reports and position papers. Candidates who do not wish to undertake administrative work should not consider applying for this position.
Qualifications: Applicants should hold a Doctorate degree in law from a reputable university, with demonstrated research experience in public international law/environmental law/law of the sea and a record of research output in the form of refereed journal articles or conference papers. An interest in research in the Asian context is an advantage but not mandatory. The doctoral degree must have been successfully completed and examined between 1 January 2022 and the present, although candidates who have completed and submitted their dissertation may also be considered.
