TRANSFORMATION

Identifying pathways toward sustainable, resilient and robust Arctic societies.

Tarja Salmela

The research group aims to strengthen research, education, and collaboration rooted in the needs of Norwegian, Sámi and Kven communities for just and sustainable societal development, and visions. We emphasize an interdisciplinary approach that includes social science, economic, and humanistic perspectives, where the core of our projects is understanding what sustainability is and how it is maintained locally. Businesses produce values that are important for future generations. This makes innovation complex and multifaceted, organizations are constantly transforming, and the need for theoretical renewal is significant. Nature can no longer be viewed solely as resources for human activity. In line with local and Sámi practices, landscapes and marine areas possess agency that is important to integrate into future philosophical thinking about sustainability and economic modeling.
