Nature, Sport, and Health in Late Modernity
Engaging with nature and participating in physical activity significantly contribute to human health and well-being. However, life in late modernity is often characterized by a series of short-lived, superficial encounters, accompanied by a lack of deeper, meaningful experiences, potentially leading to a sense of alienation from the world around us. This research project aims to generate new knowledge on how to harness the health benefits of physical activity and nature in an increasingly accelerated world.
By integrating theories from education, sociology, philosophy, and Indigenous perspectives, the project seeks to deepen our understanding of the complex relationships between nature, sport, and health. Key areas of focus include the significance of experiences in nature and sports, the qualitative dimensions of Indigenous connections to nature and physical activity, and the role of an active lifestyle in cultivating what is described in sociology and social philosophy as "the good life" (Rosa, 2019).
