Hepatitis C in Georgia

This PhD project aims to evaluate extrahepatic outcomes of HCV infection, particularly COVID-19- and CVD-related hospitalizations, and adverse perinatal outcomes, in relation to anti-HCV positivity, viremia and treatment statuses on a population level in Georgia.

Specific objectives include:

  • To examine the association of HCV infection and treatment statuses with COVID-19-related hospitalization (Paper I).
  • To assess the relationship between HCV infection and treatment statuses and CVD-related hospitalizations, specifically for ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular diseases, and diseases of the arteries, arterioles and capillaries (Paper II).
  • To evaluate the association of maternal HCV infection and treatment statuses with preterm birth, low birth weight, and perinatal death (Paper III).

This is the PhD project of Ana Aslanikashvili.
