Compliance and Technology

We observe that distributed systems are everywhere and continue to transform the society. A new breed of computer science graduates is needed that better understand the legal and ethical aspects of new technology. We carry out research and will educate socially responsible students trained for the tension between software becoming mission-critical to any large organization, while at the same time acting responsibly in a legal, ethical, and social context.

Simultaneously, law graduates need to understand the digital world better as well as the challenges of bringing new digital products and start-up companies to market, so we are bringing computer science and law together in our work and educational efforts.  We execute on this important mission in close and active collaboration with the Crime Control and Security Law group at the UiT Law faculty.

We take a principled approach to compliance and ethics by focusing on compliance-by-design in software development. Digital privacy is a problem domain that receives special attention since inter-disciplinary competence in this are is of utmost interest for any digital savvy society.
