Acquisition of English from 1. to 5. grade

This project examines the acquisition and development of English among young Norwegians from first through fifth grade. We investigate the effects of linguistic, cognitive, and sociolinguistic factors on English language development, including proficiency in Norwegian and other L1s, phonological knowledge, various aspects of working memory, and engagement in English-language activities outside school. Our goal is to identify which of these factors are the strongest predictors of English proficiency. The longitudinal design also enables intervention studies focusing on vocabulary and literacy training, allowing us to investigate their impact on children's English language development over time.
