Interplay between metabolism and signalling

It has long been known that metabolism is influencing signal transduction and gene regulation, but the underlying mechanisms are still poorly understood. Protein modifications are the basis for both signal transduction and gene regulation and their addition and removal require central metabolites that we call Hub Molecules of Life (HubMOL). Measuring the dynamics of protein modifications and metabolites allows to analyse the interplay between protein modifications and metabolism. We develop mathematical modelling approaches that allow data deconvolution and support mechanistic understanding of the interconnections between metabolism and signal transduction/gene regulation.

The models shall also be used to predict dietary responses as well as the impact of nutrition on treatments targeting respective pathways and thus help to develop new nutritional strategies to improve health and combat diseases.
