Smart Senja is about utilizing state-of-the art technologies to implement renewable energy on a larger scale. Senja is an island located at the end of the electrical grid, with a fast growing industry. They have surpassed the capacity of their main transmission lines, but rather then going for the conventional solution of constructing new main transmission cables they have taken part in this project of building the ‘Energy System of the Future’.

RENEW is an interdisciplinary research project where researchers, students and employees at UiT, ARVA (previously Troms Kraft Nett) and Ishavskraft are testing out energy solutions at Husøy and Senjahopen.
