Course contents
This course encourages a sense of care, responsibility and empowerment to participate in the creation of just and sustainable futures. It raises awareness about global sustainability crises and builds motivation and capacity for taking effective actions for transformation. The course highlights the wonder and multiples values of nature, as well as how life on Earth has changed over time. It provides a foundational overview of current sustainability crises, including climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and social inequalities. It sheds light on both existing responses to these crises and the urgency to effectively address their interconnected nature. The course builds competences for transformative change, while also fostering hope, agency and resilience.

Ingen forkunnskapskrav ut over generell studiekompetanse (GSK) eller Realkompetanse
No prior knowledge requirements beyond Higher Education Entrance Qualification or accreditation of prior experiential learning (APEL).
Objective of the course
Knowledge:
- Recognises the multiple values of nature
- Understands the significance of interconnected sustainability crises: climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and social inequalities.
- Is familiar with current responses to sustainability challenges, particularly at international levels
- Knows about the concept of transformative change and how to contribute to just and sustainable futures
Skills:
- Has the capacity to reflect and think critically about human-nature relations, sustainability, and justice
- Can recognize reliable sources on sustainability challenges and extract information from complex science
- Can cultivate hope and agency in the face of global crises
Attitudes:
- Respects the interconnectedness of life
- Feels responsibility for working towards more just and sustainable futures for all
- Is willing to actively engage in transforming sustainability challenges through both individual and collective actions
