ELE-3609 Signal Distribution and Transmission - 5 stp

Type of course
The course can be taken as a single course. Students belonging to Master in Electrical Engineering are prioritised, while other students can sign up provided available laboratory and lecturer capacity.
Recommended knowledge: A course in complex analysis.
Course contents
Introduction to bus standards for industrial control systems; Introduction to signal processing: discrete-time signal and systems, z-transform, sampling, transform analysis, frequency response, impulse response, discrete Fourier transform, Fourier-analysis.
Admission requirements
A relevant undergraduate Bachelor Engineering program with minimum 25 credits mathematics, 5 credits statistics, 7,5 credits physics.

Objective of the course
After completed course the students should have the following learning outcome:
Knowledge
- The candidate knows the characteristics of the most common bus standards used in industry control systems and can describe the difference between them.
- The candidate has knowledge in analog and digital signal transmission and processing.
Skills
- The candidate can apply the concepts and methods from this module to practical systems.
- The candidate is able to design basic parts of a signal transmission and processing system.
General competence
- The candidate understands how signal processing is used to improve the usability of a system.

Teaching methods
Classroom lectures and written exercises. The course takes two weeks, each of 30 hours. Each day 4 hours of lectures, and 2 hours of exercises
