Course contents
The subject is research driven and will have a practical approach to current and ongoing topics with in the blue industry. The following themes are included:
Aquaculture and seafood production: Process, automation, and measurement technology used in fisheries, aquaculture, and seafood production. Industrial animal welfare and selected measurement methods related to fish physiology and food quality.
Marine and fisheries acoustics: Physical and biological principles of hydroacoustic detection and measurement of marine organisms. Scientific echo sounders and fishery sonars will be described and demonstrated. Multibeam echo sounders and sub-bottom profiling sonar, as well as the basic principles of seabed seismology, are included.
Subsea and underwater drone technology: Use of drones in blue research, such as remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and autonomous vehicles. Subsea instrumentation, instrument platforms, landers, and underwater communication.
Instrumentation and environmental monitoring: Blue environmental monitoring for aquaculture, fisheries, oil and gas, as well as subsea mineral extraction and construction. Instruments for oceanographic measurements, hydrophones, and selected topics within remote sensing are included.

General study qualification with Mathematics R1+R2 and Physics FYS1.

Objective of the course
Knowledge: Basic knowledge of blue technology. Understanding and ability to acquire in-depth knowledge of recent research, including reason developments in blue technology and relevant areas of application.
Skills: Ability to communicate with peers on topics within blue technology. The research-based approach of the course provides the student with a framework to independently acquire scientific knowledge about blue technology.
Competence: The course offers a general and broad research-based introduction to technology used in the blue industries. The candidate will have a solid foundation for further education and work related to technology within the blue industries.
