Institutt for samfunnsvitenskap

Type of course

The course is mandatory in the Bachelor in Anthropology and can be taken as a single course.

Course contents

In this course, we will apply current anthropological perspectives to map the connections between environmental conditions, power, and material resources in today's global economy. We will learn how people interact with their surroundings by following the flows of material and cultural forms. Global challenges and the circulation of material goods have local consequences and are encountered in different social and cultural contexts on the ground. You will learn about sustainability, values, scale, infrastructure, markets, and resistance. We will look at how resources are extracted, produced, and distributed, with critical eyes on the perspectives that shape and govern these processes in the Anthropocene era.
