Objective of the course
The six overarching Learning Objectives broken down to knowledge, skills, and general competence.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe principles, concepts, theories and models of Health Promotion:
- Knowledge: Understand the fundamental principles, concepts, theories and models that underpin health promotion, including models of behaviour change, social determinants of health, and ecological perspectives.
- Skills: Articulate these principles, concepts, theories and models in written or verbal communication.
- General Competence: Apply these principles to real-world health promotion scenarios.
2. Critically reflect on the impact of politics on public health and health equality:
- Knowledge: Grasp the intersection between politics, policies, and public health outcomes.
- Skills: Analyse and evaluate the influence of political decisions on health equity.
- General Competence: Advocate for evidence-based policies that promote health equity.
3. Analyse social and cultural determinants of health in Health Promotion efforts:
- Knowledge: Familiarize yourself with social and cultural factors (e.g., beliefs, practices, norms) that affect health behaviours.
- Skills: Assess how social and cultural context shapes health promotion strategies.
- General Competence: Adapt health promotion initiatives to diverse social and cultural contexts.
4. Discuss different evidence-based interventions to promote health:
- Knowledge: Learn about effective health promotion strategies (e.g., community-based programs, health education, policy changes).
- Skills: Evaluate the evidence supporting these interventions.
- General Competence: Recommend evidence-based approaches to improve health outcomes.
5. Describe health promotion in the perspective of United Nations Global Sustainable Goals:
- Knowledge: Understand the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health and well-being.
- Skills: Articulate how health promotion aligns with specific SDGs.
- General Competence: Advocate for health promotion to achieve global sustainability.
6. Reflect on their learning and identify areas for further knowledge within Health Promotion:
- Knowledge: Reflect on personal growth and learning during the course.

Teaching methods
Describe the courses’ teaching methods. NB: There must be a context between the courses expected learning outcome and teaching methods.
The Teaching Methods, such as interactive lectures, group discussions, and role-play exercises, will help students acquire both knowledge and skills. Additionally, activities like daily journaling and portfolio development contribute to general competence by fostering critical reflection and self-awareness. The yoga classes and excursions also promote holistic well-being, aligning with health promotion principles.
