Objective of the course

Knowledge

Students will learn to calculate flow, pressure loss and sizing of hydraulic systems, containing reservoirs, tanks, piping, valves, hydraulic machines, meters, and other needed fittings.

Students will learn the dimension and selection process of hydraulics machines, such as pumps, water turbines, fans, hydraulic motors, and linear hydraulic motors.

Students will learn to read and design hydraulic diagrams, corresponding to different systems presented in the instruction books and manuals.

Skills

Students will be able to understand the similarities and different between water distribution systems, energy generation systems, power hydraulic systems and ventilation systems.

Students will be able to design full hydraulic systems consisting of reservoirs, tanks, piping, valves, hydraulic machines, measurement instrumentation and other needed fittings to fulfil the requirements stablished according to a particular application, such as, water distribution, energy generation, power distribution or ventilation.

Students will be able to select hydraulic machines, such as pumps, fans, turbines, hydraulic motors, or linear hydraulic motors according to the application.

Students will be able to read, draw and evaluate hydraulic schematic drawings, along with energy grade line (EGL) and hydraulic grade line (HGL) of a hydraulic system.

Students will be able go through the troubleshooting process of different hydraulic systems.

General competences

Students can participate in product development and production systems and help in practical assessments, testing and simulation in terms of resource use, economics, and security.
