Type of course
The course is optional for students taking a master’s degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture Science. It is also open for single-course students with relevant backgrounds. The course requires attendance on campus.
Course contents
The course focuses on marine planning and challenges related to this. Based on theories of marine planning, these challenges will be discussed, especially concerning fisheries and aquaculture development and activities. The course will offer common practical tools used in marine planning and train students in the interpretation, analysis, and assessment of plans.
Admission requirements
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in social sciences, economics, biology or a combination of these subjects. An average grade of at least C is required in the bachelor's degree.

Objective of the course
Knowledge and understanding:
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the key theories and concepts used in marine planning, including how these are used in real-life situations.
- Exhibit broad knowledge of the diverse processes and accompanying tools employed in marine planning, enabling the navigation of the complexities in marine planning.
- Identify and analyze the main challenges and impacts inherent in marine planning, particularly in fisheries and aquaculture development, fostering a nuanced understanding of the field.

- Read, interpret and analyze marine plans and their implications.
- Employing a social science lens, use key theories and concepts to critically analyze and discuss challenges in marine planning.
