Type of course
The course is compulsory in the bachelor program in psychology. The course can be taken as a single course.
Course contents
The course provides an introduction to modern developmental psychology. The focus will be on typical psychological development from birth to adolescence. The course will draw on relevant state-of-the-art empirical findings to illustrate key theories & methods of contemporary developmental psychology. Perceptual, cognitive, linguistic, emotional and social development will be covered.

Objective of the course
Having attended the course and completed the exam the students will obtain the following learning outcomes:(National Qualifications Framework 1st, 2nd & 3rd cycle)
Knowledge and understanding:
Upon completion of the course, the student will:
- Have knowledge of the central theories in developmental psychology
- Have knowledge of the most common methods for studying psychological development.
- Have knowledge of the key facets of psychological development in its perceptual, cognitive, linguistic, emotional and social aspects.
Skills:
Upon completion of the course, the student will:
- Be able to discuss and describe key theories, methods and findings in developmental psychology.
- Explain the main features of typical development from infancy till adolescence.
General Competence:
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Be able to use developmental psychology as a frame of reference to further understanding in other areas of psychology. Be able to discuss strengths and limitations of the key developmental theories and the common research methods in this area.

The teaching will consist of lectures and individual learning.
