BED-3111 Sustainable innovation - 10 stp

Course contents

This course merges theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing students for roles in both private and public sector organizations that increasingly seek innovation and sustainability. Organizations are expected to capitalize on innovation and adaptability to foster sustainable growth. To this end, the course aims to develop leaders and employees who are proficient at identifying and seizing new opportunities, driving innovation processes, and inspiring staff during times of change.

The curriculum provides an in-depth exploration of how to create sustainable business opportunities within existing organizations. Students will gain a thorough understanding of both the theory and practice behind innovation and sustainability. The course is divided into three progressive segments: The first two lay the groundwork for a solid understanding of the key concepts in innovation and sustainability, while the third segment tasks students with developing an innovative and sustainable project within a real-world organizational setting.

Teamwork is central to the learning experience. Students will collaborate in teams to conceptualize and execute their projects. This collaborative process not only fosters peer support but also enhances their collective ability to develop innovative and sustainable projects. Additionally, it provides valuable insights into leading and managing such projects across various organizational environments.

Admission requirements

Students have to hold a bachelor's degree (180 ECTS) in one of the following disciplines: Business, Management, Marketing, Economics, Fisheries, Biotechnology or Biology.

Application code is 9371-Enkeltemner på masternivå.

The Norwegian grading system is an A-F scale in which A is the highest score and F is fail. An average grade C from a bachelor degree issued in Norway is the minimum requirement for admission to the master's level for students with Norwegian study background. For applicants from outside of Norway, an average grade equivalent to a Norwegian C is required.

Teaching methods

The course is delivered through a dynamic mix of lectures, collaborative group work, and individual projects. Active participation in all teaching activities is expected, as students are encouraged to engage fully with the course material and work cooperatively with their peers.
