Course contents

The course lasts for the whole PhD study and consists of seminar attendance and presentations. The student will have to attend the regular ARCTOS meetings on selected topics throughout the PhD period (ARCTOS colloquium). In addition, the student will have to present the progress of his/her thesis (early, middle and final phase), in front of other students, post-docs and senior scientists. Two senior ARCTOS members act as censors and give feedback on each of the three presentations.

In addition, students have to attend a 3-5-day meeting once a year (ARCTOS Days), where ARCTOS participants gather to discuss scientific and practical issues related to Arctic research and PhD level education. Typically, students organize a one day workshop on a soft skill topic, such as presentation technique, leadership skills, etc. The other meeting days all ARCTOS members are invited. Students and seniors give presentations, attend a poster session and discuss the functioning of the network, project proposals, etc in workshops or informal settings.
