HEL-8013 Epidemiology - Deeper Understanding - 9 stp

PhD course. This course is available as a singular course.

PhD students and students at the Student Research Program at UiT The Arctic University of Norway register for class and exam in Studentweb by September 1st for autumn semester and February 1st for spring semester.

Please note that classes for this course starts in August. Please register for the course early in Studentweb, so that you have access to the necessary course material and can participate in class.

Course contents

The main aim of this course is to give you a deeper understanding of designs and methods in the field of epidemiological research, help you to develop critical thinking in general, and related to your own scientific work. The course will cover epidemiological concepts and principles and provide overview of various genres of the field such as clinical, molecular, infectious and cancer epidemiology.

Admission requirements

PhD students and students at the Student Research Program, or holders of a Norwegian master´s degree of five years or 3+2 years (or equivalent) may be admitted.

Objective of the course

After the course, students will have advanced level knowledge on analysis, synthesis and evaluation of epidemiological topics, including:

Five introductory seminars starting up in August.

Please register for the course early in Studentweb, so that you have access to the necessary course material and can participate in class.

The purpose of the seminars is to brush up on/introduce the basics of epidemiology. The seminars are distributed over two to three weeks of the course, with up to three seminar per week. Students are expected to prepare for each seminar and be active in the group work.

Lectures with practicals

Three sessions during the fall semester, lasting for four or five days per session.
